Homosexuality & the Bible Workshop
God and Gays: What does the Bible Say?

A workshop on homosexuality and the Bible is slated for Saturday, April 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Matthias' Episcopal Church in Seaside. The workshop will focus on passages in the Bible that are traditionally cited as prohibiting GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered) lifestyles. Participants are invited to:

  • Listen to how other scholars interpret these Biblical passages.
  • Find out what other faith traditions teach. How are understandings changed by contemporary research into historical and cultural factors that influenced behavior in Biblical times? How do various interpretations reflect the teachings of Jesus Christ?
  • Learn how one Protestant denomination has evolved its own teachings and practices to encompass new understandings about GLBT lifestyles, the Bible, and the Christian faith.
  • Pose general questions about the composition of the Bible and changes in interpretations over time.

The workshop will be led by Rev. Susan Miller, vicar of St. Matthias. The church is located at the corner of Kimball and Noche Buena in Seaside. Coffee and muffins will be provided. There is no charge, but advance registration is requested. To sign up, or for information, contact The Rev. Susan Miller, susanhmiller@earthlink.net, 624-3375.
