Standing Committee Update
November 19, 2004

Now is the time for all good lay persons to come to the aid of their diocese!  Our diocese has blessed this year by having so many enthusiastic lay people volunteer to share the ongoing work.  And -- over and over again -- we have heard other lay people say, "I'd like to help," and "Please tell me what I can do to help our diocese."

So now is the time when your diocese needs to hear from you!  There are still many positions open for lay leaders on our diocesan committees.  These positions include:

The Standing Committee needs one lay person
The Standing Committee will continue to serve as the Ecclesiastical Authority, working with the Assisting Bishop to guide the work of the Diocese.  In ordinary times, a Standing Committee serves as the Bishop's council of advice.  However, during this transition period the Standing Committee will meet at least twice each month for day-long meetings to review and plan the ongoing ministries of the diocese.  Every member of the Standing Committee will serve as a Liaison to an important diocesan group or committee.  The Standing Committee meets on the second Thursday of each month, and on Saturdays as determined by the members of the committee.  If you would like more information, contact the Standing Committee President, the Rev. Donna Ross at donnaross@charter.net.

The Diocesan Corporation needs one person (either clergy or lay)
The Corporation is the legal entity of the Diocese.  It holds title to and administers all property of the Diocese and monitors investments, including endowment funds.  The Corporation generally oversees the business affairs of the Diocese.  In 2005 the Corporation will meet every other month on a Monday.  For more information, contact the Chair of Corporation, the Rev. Christopher Creed at FrCreed@aol.com.

The Diocesan Council needs three Deanery representatives (lay persons from the Central Valley, Santa Cruz, and San Luis Obispo Deaneries)
Diocesan Council acts on behalf of Convention between its annual meetings, to develop and implement the policies, programs, and budget approved and adopted by Convention.  The Council meets on the third Thursday of each month.  For more information, contact the Chair of Council, Diane Lovelace, at DiLovelace@aol.com.

The Ecclesiastical Trial Court needs one lay person
Charges against a priest or deacon may be brought to the Ecclesiastical Trial Court for consideration and judgement.  The Ecclesiastical Trial Court meets as needed.  For more information, contact the Presiding Judge, the Rev. Lamont Wiltsee, at lwiltsee@mbayweb.com.
