Plans for the October convention are almost complete. We look forward to seeing you there. This convention is in response to last January’s resolution that requested a fall convention for the future, as a time that is easier on congregations and on the budgeting process for parishes/missions. In order to make the transition, we must have one convention this October, another in January, and then we begin the regular yearly cycle in Fall, 2006. This convention will bring everyone in the diocese together, to celebrate the progress we have made over the last nine months, and to plan for the future.
You have received a draft agenda for the day. More details will be added when we meet. The day begins at 8 with registration, opening worship at 9 and will be finished no later than 5 PM. There will be presentations regarding Constitution and Canons and the budget. There will be time for discussion on both items. A Fiesta Lunch has been planned. This is a wonderful time for the Diocese to be together, share fellowship, and do a little work to prepare us for the January convention.
Our last meeting with Rob Voyle was held on September 17, and the Conference Planning Team has begun the job of collating the material and getting it ready to be put on the Web. Information regarding both the June and September meetings is on the Web now. Collation of the material from the Clergy and Lay meetings with the Bishop is still being compiled. They will be posted shortly. We want to thank everyone who participated in the meetings held throughout the year. You have worked hard this year, been faithful in attending the meetings, and are to be congratulated for the work you have done.
Along the King’s Highway will once again be a part of the Episcopal Life mailing. Edy Unthank and her Editorial Board have done an excellent job of publishing the Newsletter and distributing it to all parishes/missions. This change will ensure that it gets to everyone and will no longer be the responsibility of each parish/mission to distribute. The Spanish translation will continue to be distributed as it has been.
Donna Ross has been appointed Assistant for Communications. While clear communication is essential at all times in the life of a diocese, it is even more important in an interim time when a diocese is between bishops. Her new role will include internal (between core diocesan leaders) and external (to and from leaders and all members of the diocese) communication. She will continue to work closely with Edy Unthank and the Editorial Board of Along the King’s Highway.
We look forward to seeing you on October 29.
Ann Wright
