Many people have asked questions about the various ministries of the Diocese of El Camino Real. Today's Did you know...? is the fourth in a series of updates answering some of those questions.

Did you know that the Rev. Brian Nordwick, Diocesan Administrator, does all of the following?
For diocesan administration, Brian Nordwick:
· supervises the diocesan office and all administrative staff
· manages information systems and communication media
· manages property for all diocesan facilities, furnishings, equipment, and real property, and negotiates all rental agreements
· edits and publishes the Journal of Convention, and the current edition of the Constitutions and Canons of the Diocese
· reviews, audits, and analyzes the annual Parochial Reports from all congregations
· prepares the Annual Report of the Diocese to the national Episcopal Church
For diocesan finances, Brian Nordwick:
· plans and directs the development, implementation, and operation of diocesan accounting systems
· assists and advises congregations and diocesan institutions in matters of finance and record keeping.
· monitors the financial position of the diocese, regularly reviewing current status in terms of the contributions, revenues, and expenditures of all accounts
· prepares, analyzes and interprets the periodic financial statements of all accounts
· provides financial advice to the Ecclesiastical Authority, the Canon, Diocesan Council, the Corporation Board, the Finance Committee, DIEM, and other diocesan entities as needed
· prepares and files general tax reports, payroll taxes, and related governmental reports and taxes
· supervises and coordinates the annual audit of the diocesan accounts by the independent auditors
For diocesan personnel (paid and volunteer), Brian Nordwick:
· provides staff support for the Corporation Board, the Diocesan Council, and the Finance Committee
· serves as staff liaison to the Personnel Commission, Risk Management Committee, Budget Committee, ECR Foundation, and Santa Maria Urban Ministry
· works with the Canon for Evangelism and Congregational Development to assure mutual support of diocesan programs
· provides back-up in deployment and mission program oversight where needed
· works with the Diocesan Risk Manager to implement the risk management program (property, liability, and workmen's compensation insurance) and the group life and health insurance program
· works with the Web Sacristan, the Editor of Along the King's Highway, the Translator, and other consultants
· coordinates staff work for the Annual Convention of the Diocese
· ensures that annual reviews of staff are completed per Personnel Policy
Did you know that Ms. Susan Altig, Administrative Assistant, does all of the following:
· provides administrative support for the Bishop, Standing Committee, the Canon, the Administrator, the Commission on Ministry, Diocesan Council, the Corporation Board, and other diocesan bodies?
· coordinates the Bishop’s calendar of activities, ecclesiastical and canonical requirements, including the yearly congregational Visitation Schedule
· prepares the yearly Journal of Convention, and coordinates its distribution
· works closely with Bishop, Administrator and Secretary of Convention in planning the Annual Meeting of Convention, as well as providing all clerical material required
· prepares three canonically required annual reports
(1) Report to Recorder of Ordinations
(2) Diocesan Report for publication of Episcopal Church Annual
(3) Diocesan Report to Executive Council of National Church
· sets up and maintains diocesan files
· regularly updates all diocesan email lists (clergy, delegates, alternates, etc.)
· regularly updates the master Web calendar (diocesan events)
· keeps the Web Sacristan informed of email/directory changes
· sends out News ‘n Notes each Friday
· provides various certificates and licenses as needed (Ordination, License to Officiate, etc.)
Did you know that Ms. Jo Ann McClain, Diocesan Accountant, does all of the following:
· serves as the receptionist for Mission House
· while taking care of all accounting functions for the diocese, including:
(1) payroll for all diocesan employees, 13 parishes, all missions, 1 preschool, 5 custodial accounts
(2) accounts payable
(3) accounts receivables
(4) custodial accounts
(5) billing for dental and disability insurance to all parishes and preschools
(6) analyzing all financial reports prior to submitting to Finance Committee, Council and Corporation
(7) providing training for accounting procedures and software programs for congregations
· provides additional staff support for the Bishop, Standing Committee, Canon, and Administrator
